Stayed overnight at a hospital… First time I’m admitted to a ward.
Able to eat properly now. Although at a smaller portion than usual. At least no vommitting.
Feeling better and more energetic after sleeping for a night. Still feel tired though.
Viral fewer apparently. Don’t really know what’s that. Many different doctors and nurses questioned me and I have to keep telling my story over and over again lol.
Frankly, pretty confident that my life is not in danger. It’s just that I couldn’t find a place to rest with people to take care of me. That’s why I was sent to the hospital.
Can’t believe I’m actually admitted to a hospital. And I was trying not to get sick too seriously during my travel. Haven’t been getting any serious illness for 2 or 3 years and it has to happen now. Guess some people’s expectation came true haha.
Well, a new experience, a new ‘first time’.

Day 34
Spent a night at my old NS camp. Had breakfast and started to not feeling well. Vomitted once after struggling awhile.
Didn’t have the mood to eat during lunch so only took a few bite. Still vomitted after that. Whole body was really tired. Lethargic would be the right word I suppose. Knew something is not right with my health some time around the morning already.
Many things happened afterwards and managed to get out of the camp without worrying the teachers – I think… Troubled management staff too much already that I need to get out of there immediately. Nevertheless, visiting the teachers and hanging around did make the trip worthwhile.
Got a free motorcycle ride from a camp canteen staff to Hospital Sri Manjung. Lucky for me, learnt something from the newly made St. John friend at Kedah previously and got a simple check up and medification for free.
Many things happened afterwards and finally got admitted to the same hospital and staying at the ward. Hopefully I recover soon and able to continue my journey. Really thankful to the many nice people I met along the way.

Day 33
Perak is too big for me to visit all places. Can only visit some.
Visited cave temples the whole day. Started the day by experiencing practices of a certain religion. Don’t know how to comment bout it. Guess different groups have different norms and beliefs.
Proceeded over to Sam Poh Tong cave/temple. Not only did I visited Sam Poh Tong, there were Ling Sen Tong and Nam Thean Tong as well. Perak has too many hills and caves that the locals strategically turned them into temples.
All the temples were fine. Was being treated as if I’m some weird animal most of the time because of my different appearance.
Headed over to Kek Look Tong next. Half way walking, got a free car ride when asking directions.
Kek Look Tong was simply fabulous. No wonder this temple won some best landscape award thing. It was really a nice place to visit. A place which combines the element of religion and nature.
Walked all the way back to Ipoh town. Actually, what happened was I walked half way and stopped by Medan Gopeng terminal bus. Decided to take a bus to Lumut as I’ve spent enough time at Ipoh. Plus, I wanted to visit my NS camp.
Broke a small promise I’ve made in order to get out of Ipoh. What’s done is done. Lets focus ahead.
Reached Lumut bus station and asked for directions to Kem Teluk Rubiah. Almost forgot… during the bus ride, found out that there are actually more cave temples beyond Sam Poh Tong. Didn’t expect that. Nevertheless, visiting Kek Look Tong has given me enough satisfaction.
The bus station I arrived at is called Sri Manjung bus station. A little confusing things regarding geographical area and zone in Perak.
Well anyway, walked few kilometres to the camp with excitement. Certain things have changed. People saw me and I saw people along the way. Reached the camp and met back the teachers. Nostalgic. Sleeping at the camp.
Actually, I’m writing today’s journal few days later. You will find out why soon enough.

Day 32
Will make this time simple. Too lazy to write haha.
Waited for some heritage trail walk in the morning. Met the tourist guide and started the trail after chatting for awhile. Started from railway station and ended at concubine lane. Learnt quite a lot. Certain interesting heritages would be Concubine lane and the J.W.W. Birch British monument.
Got a free ride all the way to Perak Tong cave/temple and visited the place. Just for fun:
Perak Tong (hill) – Start: 1020, Reached: 1040, End: 1100, Duration: 40 minutes
Just some simple staircase walkway but since I kept record of the timing, might as well write it down.
Continued towards Gunung Lang Recreational Park on the way to Ipoh from Perak Tong. A nice place.
On the way to Ipoh town, saw signboards leading to Cave of Happiness (Fook Bou Tong – if I remembered correctly). Just a minor attraction that many won’t bother.
Reached Ipoh town and visited Darul Ridzuan Museum. Had lunch and went completely ‘broke’ again. Headed over to Bougainvillea Park and D.R. Seevinasagam Park. Found out about Ipoh – Japan town relationship. Nice Japanese Garden (at D.R. Park).
Visited many other places along my walk that I might’ve forgotten. Can’t be remembering everything as Ipoh is full with many things.
Got free food for tea time and headed over to a second Japanese Garden located at the outskirts of town. Still nice although it was pretty dim because night was approaching (maybe it’s considered night already).
Walked pass Greentown and saw many things and many things happened afterwards. Ended up sleeping in a Church centre kind of building located near railway station (forgot church name).
Sorry for the poor writing this time. Travelling like this makes it difficult to do some things.

Day 31
Things really do turn around pretty quick. Sometimes good, sometimes bad.
Left early to Kuala Kangsar by bus. Visited around the town. A really ‘royal’ town as mentioned. Similar to how Arau is in Perlis. Nevertheless, both are unique in its own ways.
At Kuala Kangsar, visited most of the tourist attractions there. Once again, didn’t go inside most of the buildings because of one of these 3 reasons:-
Generally, a nice town in Perak.
Perak is really too big compared to other states. Definitely will not be able to visit all the attractions in each Perak town; what more visiting each and every town in Perak. Planning to visit famous towns only and reduce the time spent on walking to visit more places. More bus rides too which lead to more money spent.
Left Kuala Kangsar for Ipoh as there isn’t much left to see at KK. Arrived at Ipoh and gosh, what a town. In fact, a city is more appropriate.
Many heritage buildings around. Can easily pass by a few just by randomly walking in town. Not as frequent as Penang though. Environment totally like KL! Especially the traffic with all the jams and hons. Nonetheless, I still do think KL is worse and dirtier.
Visited tourism center for more info and walked around town. Spent hours looking for a temporary job but couldn’t find any. Tried looking for accommodation when it got dark with no results as well. In the end, sleeping at this really big KTM station.
Haven’t been washing my clothes properly for quite some time. Has been wearing the same pants for few days. Wonder how long will this continue.
To maintain a good character and attitude is pretty difficult as people tend to be the ‘real’ them when in pressure and difficult situation. But I guess, this is the time to get a hold of myself and maintain my composure and stay positive.

Day 30
‘Explore Taiping Day’. It seems Taiping is a town with many ‘firsts’.
Woke up early as the stalls’ owners did the same. Had breakfast and headed over to Taman Tasik Taiping. To summarize, the lake garden deserves its title as the most beautiful lake garden in Malaysia. Simply gorgeous.
Next was Bukit Larut (Maxwell Hill). Basically, spent a lot of time there chatting, sight-seeing, and walking as it’s really tall. Equivalent to Gunung Jerai at Kedah. Details of my climb:
Bukit Larut – Start: 0900, Reached (so called peak): 1125, Reached (real peak): 1215, End: 1515, Duration: 6 hours 15 minutes, Distance (to so called peak): 10.2km, Distance (to real peak): 13.2km, Height (so called peak): 1036m, Height (real peak): 1376m
Maxwell Hill’s resorts, chalets, etc are all located at 1036m height of the hill. However, you can actually walk higher up to the Telekom Towers and that’s where the real peak of the hill is. Also, saw a turning near the top of Maxwell Hill leading to Gunung Hijau (1448m). However, I played safe and did not explore that road. Next time.
Went to zoo and museum later. Did not enter zoo; there was a fee. Museum was dull as usual.
On the way back to the restaurant I worked at, a really big coincidence occurred. Forget bout the details.
Worked again for the night and leaving early tomorrow to Kuala Kangsar. Generally, Taiping is a nice place to live. However, many residents I met along the way kept asking me to be alert as it’s dangerous walking alone in Taiping. I can’t judge the ‘serious-ness’ of safety issue in Taiping as it’s my first time here and nothing happened to me so far.
Things have been getting weird with me recently. Wonder if it’s because I’ve been away for too long.
Refused salary and only asked for food from working. Everybody must be thinking that I’m weird haha.

Day 29
Things have been going pretty well recently. In fact, it feels like luck is on my side haha.
Spent half the day at the Buddhist temple I stayed at and got a rough idea on their lifestyles. I was asked to try compromise with their daily agenda as they have their own rules in the temple. Basically, this is what happened:-
0545 Woke up/Self cleaning
0600 Me – exercise, Monks – praying
0630 Breakfast
0700 Self activity in our respectives rooms
0830 Various activities. Not allowed to shut ourselves in the room doing our own things
I took a walk around the housing area during the free time I had as I can’t stay in my room to sleep (I’m still sleep-deprived after all). Nice housing area. Nice environment; very peaceful, serene, and calm. Back to the temple after looking around and read books provided to fill up my time till lunch. Read a very interesting book on animals and joy, compassion, love, and something else that I forgot (lol). My eyes were a little teary and I can feel the story emotionally as I was reading it. Nevertheless, did not finish reading it as something else interferes.
Had lunch and hitch a ride from the same St. John person all the way to Parit Buntar. Really lucky.
The ‘sifu’ and St. John person are really interesting characters. They are involved in so many things. What interests me the most was that both of them are scouts.
Received a really nice souvenir from Mr. St. John before leaving. Scout around Parit Buntar town and finally decided to head over to Taiping by bus.
Passed by many towns and arrived at Taiping. Perak is too big that I decided to visit only a few major towns.
Found a real job for the first time and enjoyed the work despite feeling tired. Another lesson learned: it’s not easy to find a living and a steady income. Will probably appreciate what I have now more than before.
Also learned to save water and use them moderately from sifu. Still trying to practice it though. Sleeping at the restaurant I worked.
