Prepared myself for the last day. Had my final walk towards bus stop. Took a bus to Klang.

Klang disgusts me. Guess really busy city doesn’t suit me. Walked to KTM station and took a train to Subang Jaya.

Reached Subang Jaya and on my way home, something unexpectedly nice happened. Ended my journey in a pretty satisfying manner.

Having a little cold now probably because of lack of sleep. Couldn’t write properly for this final journal record. Sorry bout that.

63 days, 9 weeks of travelling in Peninsular Malaysia has ended. Time to move on and focus ahead. Many things happened along this journey. Some good memories, some not so nice memories. Regardless, everything has become an experience for me. Appreciate all the help I received along this trip.

All in all, one adventure has ended. Time to move onto the next one.
P.S. Don’t know what to write anymore haha.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-33953014070184676332011-11-14T17:54:00.000+08:002011-11-14T17:58:10.689+08:00Day 62Finally, one more day. Managed to slept a little at the internet cafe. Left the internet cafe early and moved on.

Walked to some bus station near HSBC bank and clock tower monument. Got on a bus to Kuala Selangor and slept along the ride.

Reached Kuala Selangor and walked around sight-seeing. Visited Malawati city and also Malawati Hill. Malawati Hill was nice overall; just that many mosquitoes were around.

Town was nice too. Looked very peaceful. Walked to Kampung Kuantan and got a motorcycle ride half way to the fireflies park. Hanged around for awhile at the fireflies park and managed to get permission to sleep there for the night.

Walked around the village looking for food and water but it’s more difficult than expected. Went back to fireflies park to chill and slept for quite long enjoying the breeze and serenity. Able to watch some people’s lifestyles and behaviours too.

Spent the day in a relaxed manner yet tired from all the travelling.

Hanged around till night and many people started to come to watch fireflies especially couples because of Valentine’s Day. Rained a short while in the evening.

Joined a couple and a US backpacker in a boat ride to watch fireflies. Managed to save cost. Got along pretty well with the American.

The fireflies watch was pretty nice but was expecting more initially. Guess fireflies existence is really threathened. Was disappointed at some people’s behaviours in disregarding the supposed actions. Hopefully, the situation with fireflies will be better.

Watched visitors and couples at the fireflies park as there’s nothing for me to do. A lot of mosquitoes around which really bothers me. Really cold too especially when I didn’t eat enough food. Midnight activities here seemed to be fishing.

Just need to endure one more night. So much has happened. Wonder if I've achieve my purpose.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-51325667978044372762011-11-14T17:52:00.000+08:002011-11-14T17:52:33.537+08:00Day 61Another day with all sorts of events and mixed emotions. Soon… this trip is ending soon.

This morning was completely weird for me. Felt somehow out of place and I couldn’t sort out my head and plans.

Packed my stuff and left the uncle’s house. Followed him for breakfast and tried Kuala Pilah’s “Rojak Mee” and “Cendol”. Was left on my own again afterwards. ‘Selamba-ly’ hanged around Kuala Pilah town. A pretty small town, peaceful yet full with small town’s happenings.

Started walking towards Seremban after sorting myself a little. Was really hot and managed to walk till a little further than Sri Menanti junction only. Passed by Tanjung Ipoh, another village area. Took a bus straight to Seremban

From Seremban, took a train to KL. Once again, KL is just a place I wouldn’t want to stay at very long. Was raining heavily when I reached. Walked and bummed around. Finally, found a little directions in my plan. Had dinner and now chilling at an internet cafe. Probably cannot sleep tonight – no other better place to spend the night. Able to watch these people’s behaviours at least.

It seems my luck has ended. Not sure if I can stay awake whole night.

KL is just too busy and full with all sorts of people. A place you need to be alert at times.

Glad that there’s only few days left. Can’t wait to go back seriously. So much has happened. I believe I miss out on many events too.

‘Financially challenged’ again. Hopefully I can get through these two days with what I have.

Really, really tired. But, once again, I will press on.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-10910517302177240772011-11-14T17:50:00.001+08:002011-11-14T17:50:58.368+08:00Day 60My current mood (when writing this) is obstructing me from describing my 60th day properly.

Woke up early as usual like an early bird. Wash up and by the time I’m done, the “Pak Cik”’s wife woke up already. Had breakfast with the Switzerland wife and chatted for quite long. Really an interesting family.

Waited for “Pak Cik” to wake up and drove me to town for me to settle some business before sending me to bus station. Took a bus to Ulu Bendol to complete my final mount climbing for this trip. Reached and obtained permission from the forest ranger.

1135 – Started jungle trekking along the Mount Angsi climbing trail
1220 – Reached Kem Tangga Batu area
1235 – Reached Fasa 2A signboard (if I’m not wrong)
1245 – Reached “Lazy Log 1” and “1 hour to summit” signboard
?? – Reached “17 minutes to summit” signboard
1335 – Reached the summit of Mount Angsi: 825 metres
Hanged out with new-made friends
1535 – Started walking down the mount
1815 – Reached foothill.

Mount Angsi trail is really challenging. The first time I feel so exhausted after reaching the summit. Passed by many people going down the mount along the way. Made new friends from Selangor/KL area. It rained when we were chilling around at the summit and on the way down. All in all, a satisfying climbing experience.

Met an uncle who stays at Kuala Pilah and willing to take me to his house and rest for a night. Another interesting and funny person. Ate and hanged out at a food stall at Ulu Bendol before following the uncle to his place.

Reached Kuala Pilah and cleaned myself after getting dirty at the mount. Then followed the uncle for ‘tea session’ before returning to rest.

Generally, a nice day. I have been getting really lucky recently that it’s starting to feel weird. Things seem to have been going pretty well for me towards the end of the trip.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-86820751198741963752011-11-14T17:47:00.000+08:002011-11-14T17:47:35.078+08:00Day 59A really tiring day with lots of walking. Not in good condition to make major leg movements. Feel really weak physically.

Left Rahang and received help from many people I met there. Walked to Ulu Bendol passing by Senawang and probably Paroi too. Got a free motorcycle ride about 6 km from Ulu Bendol.

Senawang is a big city in NS. No wonder it’s named “Bandar Senawang”. Walked for really long before getting out of the place.

Ulu Bendol is nice and didn’t change much since the last time. Nevertheless, the recreational forest takes up too much money that I need to get out ASAP.

Learnt that Petaling is actually a plant name. Random. Couldn’t go up Angsi mount as the forest ranger advise not to because it was afternoon. Met some interesting people and typical people at the forest. Chilled a little while at the river to ‘check’ on shoes and feet.

Continued walking towards Kuala Pilah passing by many villages Can’t remember villages name as they’re difficult to memorize. Generally, all are Terachi area villages including Terachi village.

After a long walk, reached the junction to Sri Menanti. Rested awhile while figuring out my plans. Walked to Sri Menanti in the end.

The area was really nice. Got a free motorcycle ride again a few kilometres before reaching the royal town. Have been getting many motorcycle rides lately.

The town is nice, peaceful, and beautiful especially when it’s during sunset. Walked around, looked around, see around. People here are nice, friendly, and kind too.

Chilled at a food stall thinking of sleeping there as the area is peaceful and safe. Reported to the police station as suggested by a “Mak Cik” on my situation just in case. Led to ‘interview’ session and me helping to teach one policemen email stuff.

Towards the end, a “Pak Cik” asked me to sleep at his home and I met this interesting family now. Kampung lifestyle again.

Receiving too much luck recently especially eversince meeting the Pakistan workers waiting for bus.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-86313831090750908362011-11-14T17:46:00.000+08:002011-11-14T17:46:09.842+08:00Day 58Had a good rest last night. Really lucky despite the jungle atmosphere with the dirt, insects, and all.

Usual morning routine. Waited for the “Pak Cik” incharge of the mount to come back as he went out, and had breakfast thanks to him after that (this sentence is seriously ‘screwed’ haha). Embarked on a trip to Mount Dato peak afterwards.

Completed the climb with satisfaction:
Gunung Datuk – Start: 0845, Reached: 1005, End: 1125, Duration: 2 hours 40 mins, Height: 2900 foot (883.92m)

The mount is nice and unique with many big rocks and stones. The terrain isn’t too difficult yet challenging. Similar to Broga hill with all the big rocks except that Mount Dato has no “lalang” growing all over the peak. The peak of Mount Dato has sufficient space for camps which is really nice and the highest rock gives a 360° view from the peak. A mount worth visiting.

Made some friends during the climb and they (2 uncles, 1 aunty) gave me a ride to Rembau after the climb. I actually rushed down the mount to allow some time for me to bathe and pack my bag before they reach foothill. Thanked the Dato Mount “Pak Cik” for taking care of me.

Arrived at Rembau, a small town in NS, and had a drink with the uncles and aunty. They left, I walked around, had lunch, grateful towards the restaurant aunty.

Visited Rembau Crystal after that and looked around as well as learnt bout crystals and processing methods. Really tempting to purchase something as souvenir but really need to save some cash. The uncles and aunty whom I met at the mount solve my financial issue for the moment so I can’t waste their sincerity.

Went on another long and tedious walk towards Seremban. Passed by Chembong, Pedas, and Wet World Pedas. Wet World Pedas looked nice. Walked till don’t know where near the junction to go Senawang and took a bus to Rahang. Got lucky as some Chinese community were having some New Year related event at “Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi Cina Rahang” and I ate till I’m full plus managed to find a sleeping spot tonight. Enjoyed the Chinese New Year atmosphere and watching funny behaviours haha. Still not sure if this place is a “Kampung Baru” or not.

Have been feeling lucky recently. Feels like the calm weather before the heavy storm.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-6699664445365779982011-11-14T17:44:00.002+08:002011-11-14T17:44:46.692+08:00Day 57Have been sleeping in both bus stations and KTM stations a lot lately. First thing in the morning was to climb “Gunung/Bukit Tampin”. Till now, I’m still not sure if they categorized it as a mount or a hill. I shall just use the term “mount”.

Found the entrance towards the trekking trail in the housing area and immediately walk up the tar road trail. As usual, conquered the mount/hill:
Gunung/Bukit Tampin – Start: 0745, Reached: 0850, End: 0950, Duration: 2 hours 5 minutes

The peak I reached had this TM Net tower thing as usual but I doubt it’s the highest point around the area. Either the higher peaks belong to other hills/mounts or the peak I reached isn’t the ‘real’ peak. Nevertheless, that’s the furthest I can go following the trail provided. Not gonna jungle trek and create my own path anymore haha.

Found this odd/unique wolf-looking dog at the highest point of Mount Tampin. It followed me down pretty far before hanging around at some TM Net Green Point thing near the foot hill. Just some random incident.

Reached foothill, got out of the housing area, and walked around town. Received help again after a little incident. Made some preparations and walked to Rembau.

After a long walk, stopped by Gunung Datuk. Had a free motorcycle ride all the way near the recreational site entrance from some “budak kampung”. Entered the place, enquired a little, and now putting up a night here to climb the mount in the morning. Many things happened at the forest park afterwards. Met some people, did some stuff, received help in terms of food again.

Glad that I can relax for the night after so long. The environment is really jungle so can’t expect much. Feet healing pretty well. Wondered if it’s because of the theraphy fishes. Gonna challenge Mount Datuk and continue my walk to Rembau tomorrow.

Wondering how am I gonna spend the remaining week.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-64213347328912457952011-11-13T01:12:00.000+08:002011-11-13T01:12:34.503+08:00Day 56Had my final ‘luxury’ breakfast after waking up before I’m tight on cash again. Took a bus to Gunung Ledang.

Walked a short distance from where the bus dropped me and one of the Gunung Ledang Resort staff gave me a motorcycle ride there as he was heading the same way. Enquire a little from the entrance staff at the resort and walked to Gunung Ledang National Park afterwards. The road I took made me felt that I was climbing the mount already haha.

Reached the National Park after a pretty tiring walk. Was about to rest awhile but the tourism staff there kinda greeted me and started to converse with me. In the end, got to know each other better and she kinda gave me a guided tour around the place.

Was brought to Sungai Air Putih Waterfall. It was certainly nice but I was actually distracted by the conversation more instead of enjoying the nature. Guess my action of not bringing a camera was right after all since I’m not a good multi-tasker. Was taken to Kolam Mahligai later on and then a place in which there are Theraphy fish or “ikan Kapi”. Tried the ‘treatment’ and it helps a lot especially since my feet have been in bad condition for quite some time.

After hanging around at the National Park for awhile, ‘tumpang-ed’ some ‘big shots’ car to Segamat. Very interesting people especially the Chinese ‘boss’.

Was taking a stroll at Segamat to look at the results from the recent “banjir” as I was just tagging along. Didn’t notice at all from yesterday’s walk and this morning about the condition of the town. The flood really caused a big loss to the town’s citizen. Was pretty ignorant about natural events such as this because newspaper and radio were out of my reach during the travel. Now I know how difficult it is for unlucky people like them.

Was dropped at railway station and I took a bus to Tampin from there. Time to say farewell to Johor. Reached Tampin, the town that is located at Melaka/Negeri Sembilan border. Looked around for job and accommodation as I was tight on cash. Met this Indian Muslim family at their restaurant and received help and dinner. Continued walking around town and now gonna sleep at railway station again. Left exactly one week.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-60808584391167120522011-11-13T01:11:00.000+08:002011-11-13T01:11:07.089+08:00Day 55Woke up. Did some stuff to finish off what I started. Then it was adventure time.

Walked to Gunung Lambak Eco Resort from Kluang town. The place was nice and many people gathered here to climb the mount (walk would be more appropriate). Scouted around the area and found out that there are 3 trails and 2 peaks accessible. 2 trails lead to one peak and another trail leads to a different peak. Nonetheless, all trails are pretty much connected. There’s another peak actually that is not allowed entry apparently because the trail to that peak has many wild animals along the way.

Used the trail that seemed like many people were using. Don’t wanna get lost on a hill again haha. The trek was quite challenging. Met many people along the way. Managed to reach the peak in quite a short period despite the ‘steepness’ during the climb. Either the trail is short or the mount is short. Nice view above. Although there weren’t much options on what view to look at.

Hanged around at the peak for a moment and a pair of uncle and aunty whom I met earlier caught up with me. Became a little closer to them despite language barrier. In the end, followed them down the hill using a different trail which is longer but easier. Record check (it’s been quite some time):
Gunung Lambak – Start: 0922, Reached: 1015, End: 1125, Duration: 2 hours 3 mins

Took a simple bath at the eco resort after the climb as I was pretty dirty from the dirt and sweat in addition to not bathing for several days already. Totally refreshing despite simply bathing only. Had a relaxing lunch and walked back to Kluang town.

Walked around in town under hot sun sorting my plans out in a pretty relax manner. Guess I really had no idea on what to do after Gunung Lambak. In the end, was just chilling around waiting for train to Segamat at night.

Took the train to Segamat. Reached Segamat. Walked around town for awhile. Gonna sleep at railway station.

About a week left. Money finishing soon again. Wonder how will my journey ends.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-65658054129578882032011-11-13T01:09:00.000+08:002011-11-13T01:09:50.779+08:00Day 54A memorable day worth remembering. Although there are some not so nice things that happened as well, it’s still a great day.

Left Kampung Nelayan Air Masin and Kukup to head over to Tanjung Piai. Passed by Serkat on the way, another small village in Johor like Kukup. Few kilometres before reaching Tanjung Piai National Park, a “Pak Cik” gave me a motorcycle ride there.

Tanjung Piai National Park deserves its title as a National Park. Really nice and well-maintained. My student ID helped me in paying less for entrance fee; glad I brought it along. Walked around, looked around, hanged around with the staff, and chatted around with other visitors. Finally, reached the southernmost tip of mainland Asia:
Time: 1234 hours (no joke, seriously), Date: 6 February 2011, Sunday

Time to end my travel after so long. As quoted at the monument in Tanjung Piai: “Veni, Vidi, Vici; I came, I saw, I conquered” (if I remember correctly). Two of the quotes I remembered pretty well along the walking trail was “Success is not a destination, but a journey” and “You can’t change others, but, if we change ourselves, we may change the world.”

Walking to and back from the southernmost tip monument was ‘challenging’. I hanged around too long that the water level rises so high and the waves actually ‘drowned’ the pathway. Made my shoes and socks all wet. Also had a ‘war’ with monkeys at the entrance on my way back. They saw my biscuits and grabbed the plastic bag but I managed to stop it from taking the biscuits away. Then it was ‘patience contest’ in which we stared at each other and it was 3 on 1. Had help from staff and managed to secure my biscuits.

Had a free “bas pekerja” ride on my way out all the way to 5 km before Pontian Kechil in which I walked there later. As said before, typical big Johor town. Foolishly took a bus back to JB and then KTM to Kluang. Kluang is another big town.

Passed by an Indian wedding and ate for free after asking. How lucky. Helped to clean up and experienced the night life of Kluang when looking for bus station. Chinese community here seems to be dominating Johor towns.

Had a few little incidents at Kluang bus station. Sleeping here now.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-73002845613492873142011-11-13T01:08:00.000+08:002011-11-13T01:08:07.903+08:00Day 53Didn’t sleep much last night. Was practically shifting my sleeping spot most of the time. Sat at the restaurant for really long. It seems I’m getting used to sleeping a few hours only as I’m as energetic as usual after waking up.

Headed over to “Hutan Bandar JB” and the walk was interesting like many walks I’ve had. The city forest was generally nice. Many people especially those that come with families are there enjoying themselves. Nevertheless, more maintenance work need to be done consistently in order to make the place better. After all, there are flawed places which are pretty ugly to look at due to lack of maintenance.

Moved on to Tasik Merdeka. On the way there, some funny incident occured. Found a signboard leading towards a Malay wedding and “kenduri”. Followed it as maybe I can eat for free if I ask. However, as usual, couldn’t gather the courage and forget the shyness to ask for food because it’s such a weird thing to do. Continued walking and somehow kept getting lost and reaching dead ends. In the end, need to return all the way to the Malay wedding house and then follow the big road to go Tasik Merdeka. Hopefully you get my implications haha.

Tasik Merdeka was nice too. However, something happened that distracted me from fully enjoying the view and environment. Plus, once again, the place needs consistent maintenance work, seriously.

Continued my walk and both nice and not so nice things happened again. Passed by Dataran Merdeka with many minor events happening along the way. Reached back JB city centre and finally leave the place by bus to Pontian. Then another bus to Kukup. Pontian was typically like other towns in Johor, really big. Could tell it’s a nice place to hang around, but, I moved on to Kukup regardless.

Finally, a small town in Johor, Kukup. In fact, too small to be a town; more like a village. It’s a really nice fisherman village and the atmosphere here is great especially with CNY mood. Received help at Kampung Nelayan Air Masin. Chinese community here are really nice. Nonetheless, they still had to be alert around strangers. Can’t be blamed. And there are always this really small percentage of minority that are bad or weird. Guess there’s always at least a spoilt one in a group.

Sleeping in some abandoned looking temple which has turned into a ‘hand around’ spot. Firecrackers, fireworks, floating tang lungs, etc are really nice.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-2620661594622771942011-11-13T01:06:00.000+08:002011-11-13T01:06:30.830+08:00Day 52Really glad that I can ‘recharge’ myself after meeting this newly made friend and put up a night at his house in Kulai. Completely ‘freshened’ up.

Today was an unproductive day. Spent the whole day doing pretty much nothing. Hanged around at Mr. new friend’s house till late afternoon as he wasn’t feeling very well so I couldn’t get a ride back to JB without waiting for him. Really glad that I get to meet him. A nice person with nice family.

Spent the remaining time at JB City Square area watching people here. Somehow not in the mood to walk. People in JB are similar to KL. Really all sorts of people can be found here. Seriously need to be careful around here.

Nonetheless, watching people’s behaviours can be really interesting. All sorts of funny little stuff can be observed here.

Haven’t figure out where to sleep yet. I’m just so lazy haha. Hopefully it doesn’t ‘cost’ me later.

Random note: The bus station I first ended up in when I arrived in JB is Larkin area.

JB is a big city with confusing roads and lots of construction work going on at certain places. You can find all types of people here which also means you need to be aware of weird and bad-intentioned people. Generally, similar to KL but you can find distinctive characteristics that distinguish JB from KL. Kulai looks like how Subang Jaya and Damansara area are so you can imagine Kulai and other neighbouring towns are like how Subang and Damansara are to KL area. Just my assumption anyway. JB is unique on its own because of Singapore’s influence probably. After all, Singapore is just a stone throw away from JB so it isn’t surprising to find Singaporeans’ features and elements on JB buildings and all.

Tomorrow is a new day. My journey is ending soon too. It’s been long. Even after my journey ends, I believe there would be many things for me to do and fix. Nonetheless, I will be able to move on; at least, I’m hoping and believing so. As of now, lets focus on completing this journey first. I’m getting a hunch that there will be more obstacles ahead. I really want to achieve my objective.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-81561124669122630092011-11-13T01:04:00.000+08:002011-11-13T01:04:03.953+08:00Day 51It’s Chinese New Year and I’m out here instead of home. Slept at some random “pondok” I found in Danga Bay. Woke up in the middle of sleeping to change sleeping location as half way during my sleep, some random person popped out of nowhere sitting nearby me. For safety reasons, better to stay away from suspicious characters like that. Continued sleeping at the main stage after looking around.

Woke up late. After-effect of not sleeping one night. Took a bus to JB city centre back and performed normal morning practices by bumming into public facilities. How inconvenient.

For some reason, my memory is kinda hazy about what I did. Probably because of lack of sleep or that I didn’t really planned my route and simply bummed into places. I’ll just write what I remember nevertheless.

One of my ‘main event’ for the day was visiting one of the oldest Chinese temple in JB. As it’s the first day of Chinese New Year, many people went to the temple to pray. The traffic jam was bad and the RELA team helped to control the traffic. One of the thing I dislike seeing was how many people were gathering at the front entrance of the temple to receive donation from people visiting the temple. Can’t they look for other alternatives to look for money in a better manner? Gosh….

Temple were congested with Chinese. All sorts of ‘mini events’ were going on. It was worth visiting just to feel the Chinese New Year atmosphere. Being there reminded me that I should be at my hometown relaxing and enjoying Chinese New Year and not out in a place with no company at all. Nonetheless, this trip will reward me greatly.

After a little chatting and looking around, went lunch and headed to my next destination: ZON JB, a place with duty free complex. Walking there was mentally-tiring. The roads were crazy in JB. On a different level than other cities such as Ipoh, Alor Star, etc. Probably because of Singapore located nearby.

Passed by some beach at Tanjung Puteri before reaching ZON JB. It was nice as usual. The waves are slightly different probably because it’s a “tanjung”. Walked a little and bought cheap biscuits at ZON JB. Took bus back JB city centre. Some events happened and later, ended up at a church looking for a place to sleep. More things happened with the guard and some people at church and now ended up in a new made friend’s house. Really glad.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-38665355347439021682011-11-09T17:54:00.004+08:002011-11-09T17:54:58.067+08:00Day 49 & 50Since I didn’t sleep for a night, I thought I should just write both days events under one entry.

Was working whole night and morning at the fruit store; that’s why I didn’t sleep at all. Started day 49 by working at the fruit store as usual. My performance got better as my feet doesn’t hurt that much after eating the medicine I received. With the assistance of my first aid kit and socks, I was able to help out at the store. Guess the money for the medicine was worth it afterall.

Worked till midnight and wanted to stop. However, I continued till later morning. Just feel like helping out as they needed extra helping hands and the Bangladesh workers are not sleeping at all because the boss said so (labour abuse). So I just worked with the ‘Bangladeshis’ and not sleep together. However, I took off early to return to the temporary home to pack my bag and leave.

Said farewell to everyone again as usual and received some cash as a form of salary. Initially, boss wanted to give me more. But, I rejected it as I only asked for sufficient money for new slipper and bus ticket. So I received less in the end because of my stupidity (that’s how many perceived it haha).

Left quite late because of certain incidents and taking care of my feet is another issue. I left anyway and went back to the fruit store to visit boss’s mom as requested by her. Received ang pao from her and as I suspected, she used ang pao as an excuse to give me more money. Found out only after I took the bus.

Took a bus to Johor Bahru after hanging around in Muar looking for some things. Took the opportunity to sleep. Reached some bus station that I’ve forgotten the name of the place and took another bus to Johor Bahru’s “pusat bandar”. Before that, I managed to get myself a new slipper at the bus terminal. Haven’t dispose the old one yet.

Johor Bahru town is nice. Hanged around here and there. Too lazy to describe further. Walked to Danga Bay. A difficult walk mainly because of sleep-deprived mode. It’s raining again.

Danga Bay is nice. Celebrated Chinese New Year Eve alone by eating expensively. Some luxury for myself. Quite fond of fireworks but too lazy and tired to move to a better spot for viewing. Haven’t figure out where to sleep.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-40294866876944081182011-11-09T17:52:00.000+08:002011-11-09T17:52:09.901+08:00Day 48Darn it…. I’m troubling others again. And once again, I’m left clueless about my plan in these few days.

Went working as usual. Figured that barefeet enables me to work better as slippers just make my feet worse so I was working barefeeted the whole day. Not too sure if it was a good idea.

My feet is now swollen and the injuries are pretty much the same besides drier. Guess the absence in rain contributed a little towards the healing of my feet.

My feet has been grabbing attention from many people and caused others to worry about me. It seems that my feet is swollen to a point in which it’s really serious. In the end, the chicken rice uncle who helped me and brought me to the fruit shop previously brought me to a clinic to check on my feet. Feet checked, was given medicine, and the cost of it all seems absurd much. Can’t believe I caused so much trouble to so many people and it is certainly not the first time during this trip.

Still wondering if I can continue working. And totally uncertain about my plans.

Rain seems to have stopped. Hopefully it stays that way for few days so that Chinese New Year celebration wouldn’t be a gloomy one for everyone.

Working at this fruit store really allowed me to experience and see something. Nevertheless, it’s a tiring job and my body is feeling the after effect of working.

Sigh…. seriously feeling lost right now. Felt really bad for making chicken rice uncle paying so much for my feet. Plus, making others worried as well. Another issue would be whether I can work or not. People here are really weird in a different sense. Atleast I can understand that the people from the fruit store are too busy to bother themselves with me.

So much has happened.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-25132329435566174932011-11-09T17:51:00.000+08:002011-11-09T17:51:07.978+08:00Day 47Things seem so screwed up for me right now. Everything seems so uncertain to me.

First of all, I’m not too sure about my plans in Muar for these coming few days. Things happened so suddenly that I’m totally confused and unclear about working at this busy fruit store and all. I was asked to help out till Wednesday but I can’t stay for too long. And if I were to work for a few more days, I don’t know what are the arrangements for me such as salary, living place, etc. Basically, everything seems uncertain to me.

Secondly, my leg is in terrible condition now that I can’t really walk as usual. The main cause of it all would be the rain. Second, would be the dirty and small slippers I wore temporarily as mine spoilt when I was in Seremban. My leg is really in bad shape now and it hinders me from helping out. Now I feel like just a useless person who sits down and does nothing.

Seriously, I don’t know what’s next. I need to cure my leg firstly as it’s my ‘weapon’ during this journey. Hopefully, it stops raining cause it’s been raining non-stop continuously for quite some time.

Today, I spent my whole day working and sitting down when my leg is no longer capable of moving about. No complicated story about today’s life.

This job seems so difficult that I’m pitying the Bangla workers. Sleeping so little yet working so much. Guess some people are relaxing while awaiting Chinese New Year and the rest are working like mad cow.

Really don’t know what to write anymore. Everything seems so messed up. My usual daily routine is gone. Issues such as food doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore. But, it’s other things that’s been troubling me. Difficult on a different level.

Seriously have no idea on how to fix the situation. Things do get more difficult towards the end of the journey.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-42871633162756404662011-11-09T17:49:00.001+08:002011-11-09T17:51:07.988+08:00Day 46A crazy day, literally. All the good and bad things happened in such a short duration.

As usual, woke up, morning routine, and went breakfast. Spent my last RM1 on nasi lemak which was a satisfying meal as the “Mak Ciks” allowed me to add “sambal” and rice. Food is really cheap; RM1 for nasi lemak.

Started my walk again and this time to Muar. In the beginning, met a group of young scouts on an expedition. However, couldn’t communicate due to language barrier. I actually walked all the way to Muar from Tangkak which is really far. Plus, I don’t know what’s wrong with me that I actually intentionally (one way or another) missed an opportunity to get a free ride. Nevertheless, although I could’ve done better at many things, what I did turns out to be an experience as well so I shall just accept it.

Passed by several towns and villages on the way to Muar. The ones I remembered are Bukit Kangkar, Sungai Mati, Pekan Rawang, Parit Bunga, and Tanjung Agas. Not sure if I actually miss out any. Came to the conclusion that most towns in Johor is really big because the size of the state is big. Till now, all the towns and villages I visited in Johor are just huge.

Had lunch by asking for free food again at Pekan Rawang. My second time so far. Received more than I asked. Some people are just too nice sometimes.

Area around Muar town is interesting especially the bridge and Tanjung Agas. Muar town itself is even more interesting. But the almost-whole day rain spoiled it.

Somehow ended up in Chinese stalls area and had many funny and crazy experience. Will just try to sum up everything.

Food doesn’t seemed to be a problem as many are willing to give food for free. Finding a job isn’t that easy but ended up working at some quite major fruit stall. Experienced and learned a lot through this work. Accommodation was a problem despite everyone’s kindness. They are nice but in other aspects, they seemed a little…. irresponsible? Don’t know how to describe it anymore. Ended up in some Bangladeshi home after a long time. The place seems decent. At least I got to bathe after four days of not doing so. Still stuck here for various reasons.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-75102904256557683972011-11-09T17:47:00.001+08:002011-11-09T17:47:48.120+08:00Day 45Another tough day. Wonder how long will this last. Although I know that I could’ve done better in many things, but, cut me some slack as travelling like this ain’t easy. All in all, it’s just excuses from me haha.

Yesterday night, I was ‘saved’ by ‘Mak Cik guard’ again. Received food and hot drink. Guess luck was on my side. Able to sleep with stomach well-fed.

Walked early in the morning to Tangkak. Passed by Chin Chin and many other small villages along the way. Finally reached Johor. The moment I enter Johor’s border, it was construction all over. Really mentally-exhausting to walk along a long stretch of road with construction work going on on the road and beside.

Nevertheless, reached Tangkak. A pretty city-like town. Really big. Wonder if most towns in Johor are like this.

Searched for my living essentials again and no results as usual. Living is so hard. Plus, the rain is another problem.

Managed to solve my lunch problem by asking for leftover food in one of the houses at Kampung Solek located really nearby to Tangkak town. For the first time, I actually asked for free food from somebody. But, looking for a job seems so difficult in Malaysia for travellers like me that I ran out of idea. In the end, I believe what I received was more than just leftovers.

Couldn’t find a decent place to put up a night again and was led to a basketball court in “Kampung Baru Tangkak”. Have been sleeping outdoors a lot lately.

Made some not so decent friends that won’t bring harm to me and they helped me a little in the food department. At least I didn’t sleep with rice and curry in my stomach only.

Some weird incident happened at the basketball court earlier involving a girl. Hope she will do fine so as well as her family members especially the young ones. Pretty sure these things affect them in one way or another.

Communication with the Chinese community is still a problem for me. Have been feeling lucky once in awhile and also unlucky (most of the time haha). Decided not to travel to Gunung Ledang for some reason.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-88602423245613001982011-11-09T17:45:00.000+08:002011-11-09T17:45:48.113+08:00Day 44Yesterday night was crazy. In the end, slept at a “pondok” at Dataran Ayer Keroh. It continued to rain midnight. Seriously ‘sickening’.

This morning was another crazy one. Was walking around in circles aimlessly because of misdirections. In the end, managed to go where I wanted to. A day full of walking just like the beginning of my trip.

Went to Melaka gateway in the morning. Never really looked at the gateway properly the last time and now that I do, it’s really worth stopping by here. Spent my last cents on roti canai. Guess I just need to spend all of it since I don’t have much with me anyway.

Moved on to Taman Rama-rama and the outside didn’t change much. Plus, the place is just as hard to locate as last time.

After that was wandering around aimlessly as I kept getting misled around. Nevertheless, found my way to Jasin.

Visited Taman Beribu Bunga as it was on the way. Guess I visited the garden in the end despite not doing so yesterday. The garden was really nice and apparently, they really have thousand plants in the garden.

Then it was all walking till I reached Bemban area. Passed by a few ‘Kampungs’ and it was nice. Really gave me the ‘Kampung’ feeling.

Continued walking all the way to Jasin. A town that I don’t know whether to be called a city or not. Big yet not too big. Developed yet not too developed. It’s certainly unique.

Struggled again for dinner and accommodation. Communication problem again with the Chinese community. In the end, sleeping in the hospital. Sleeping as in just ‘tumpang-ing’, not admitted into the hospital. Settled my dinner thanks to the ‘Mak Cik guards’. Looks like I’m really sleeping in many odd places.

Feet really screwed. Didn’t take proper care of it in the rain. Guess I’m still just a ‘tenderfoot’.

Things just seemed tougher. But I know I’ll endure them anyway.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-31711394001324917752011-11-09T17:41:00.000+08:002011-11-09T17:41:34.589+08:00Day 43A long, mentally tiring, lots of waiting, and challenging day. What a naggy description from me.

The whole day was raining. Not heavy rain, but, the magnitude is enough to make people sick of the rain.

Started off the day by preparing myself to leave Chetti home. Bothered them so much already. Said farewell to all of them. A really nice family that I must visit again.

Followed the dad and sister to school by car as it was raining. Was dropped at the main city later on. Went breakfast at a stall near where I was dropped and waited for the rain to stop. Of course, the rain didn’t stop at all.

Walked to Kampung Mortem by following the river trail when it was drizzling a little only. Kampung Mortem is really unique because its houses are traditional Malay houses that are well preserved and taken care of.

Was walking to Ayer Keroh and the rain got heavier. Immediately, stop by a stall for shade. Waited and waited but the rain still did not stop. Reminded me of when I was walking to Machang and Bukit Bakar in Kelantan.

After a long wait, decided to use my raincoat again. It’s been long since the last time I used it. Waiting won’t bring me anywhere so might as well I just walk through the rain.

The walk to Ayer Keroh sure brings back lots of memories. Still, many things have changed. Especially new buildings being erected.

Wanted go Taman Beribu Bunga but changed my mind due to various reasons. Passed by and visited some of the attractions in Ayer Keroh: Zoo Melaka, Crocodile Park, Mini Malaysia & ASEAN, Botanical Garden, Bee Museum, Aboriginals Museum, Dataran Ayer Keroh.

Some nice things happened, some not so nice things happened at those places. And sometimes nothing happened haha.

Decided to sleep at this 24/7 McD next to Crocodile Park but not so sure now. Apparently, they are closing from 12am to 7am for a major clean up later. Such a coincidence they’re doing it when I wanna spend a night here – how unlucky.

Hanging around and waiting till 12am to see if I can stay later. Exercised at Dataran Ayer Keroh earlier.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-20974934296128574722011-10-03T16:40:00.000+08:002011-10-03T16:40:13.013+08:00Day 42Visiting places and attractions is definitely the way to go. Went visit quite a number of attractions in Melaka.

Started off by looking for a restaurant to have breakfast while heading towards Tourism Melaka Centre. In the end, ended up eating Hainanese Chicken Rice near Jonker’s Street. Pretty unique rice balls. Get to try interesting food once in awhile during my travel despite my financial situation haha.

After feeding my stomach, went tourism centre and got a rough idea on my route plan for the day. Headed over to shops nearby Portugese Settlement to stock up on cheap biscuits. Preparing myself for hard times haha.

Finally, headed to the first tourist attraction of the day – St. John Fort. Memories again haha. View was great from the fort.

Next, walked to some stadium/park/field. Some Majlis Bandaran facilities for public. Well, the trip there has some nice things to it especially along the way. The final destination wasn’t much though. Don’t really know how to put it into words so forget it.

Finally, went to the best place of the day – Bukit China. Finally, arrived at the place after passing by so many unique buildings and cemeteries. Arrived at the main staircase located at a Chinese school. The hill takes up a lot of land that I actually walked beside it for quite some time before reaching the proper staircase to go up.

Had lunch at the canteen and it was a nice experience. Met nice people again. Walked up the staircase and saw these mini models of Melaka buildings such as Stadhuys along the hill. Very nice and interesting. In the end, the hill was very peaceful and serene. Nice view too. Really enjoyed it.

After that, went back to Jonker’s Street and visited a few temples, museums, mausoleums, etc. Also visited Hang Li Poh Well and some monument near Bukit China.

After that, just hanged around till later evening and went back to Chetti home. There were some guests and it was fun having them around. Reminds me of my place again haha.

Tomorrow, I will be on my own again.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-27772249838917199212011-10-03T16:37:00.000+08:002011-10-03T16:37:20.531+08:00Day 41Learning bout this family’s weekdays daily routine.

Woke up early, washed up, and breakfast. The young ones will get ready for school. After breakfast, they will head over to school whereas the old ones will return to sleep.

Later in the morning, I believe the father goes to work and the mother starts with house chores. Didn’t wait long enough to find out. I, myself went out to walk around Melaka town again.

Couldn’t find work as usual. The only thing I gained from all the walking I’ve done is probably being more familiar with the buildings and roads. Was hungry too.

Went back to Chetty ‘home’ and waited for lunch as I was really hungry. This is when I realized so many things. I am such an ignorant, naive, and selfish fool. Can’t believe I learnt that about myself so late. This family is barely surviving financially and here I am ‘leeching’ off them. Need to be more aware with these kind of things.

Tried looking for work again after lunch till evening. No result. Melaka is developed enough to be a city afterall. And city tend to be more difficult to find people that trust strangers like me.

In the end, decided to support myself with what I have now. I shall only take the opportunity to rest and recover my fitness.

Just a random note that I forgot to write down previously: Slippers spoilt when I was in Seremban before leaving to Port Dickson. So it’s been inconvenient for me at times.

Rained in Melaka for a short while before I headed back to Chetti home. It’s been hot for awhile.

Went back Chetti home and everything proceeded as usual. I shall start my visiting like previously tomorrow.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-29173906784602520682011-10-03T16:36:00.000+08:002011-10-03T16:36:12.946+08:00Day 40Finally, things are better now. Woke up and after getting ready, waited for quite some time for the Malay Datuk and had to contact him in the end. He came, picked me up, gave me money for breakfast, dropped me at a restaurant. From the way things are going, I simply decided to not trouble him anymore and be on my own again.

So I had my breakfast and it’s the same food and place I had my lunch at one time. Haha memories.

Walked back to tourism spot area and went up St. Paul’s hill just for fun. Some things changed, some didn’t. At least, the musician is missing, that’s for sure.

Went down the hill and into the tourism information centre again. Asked for directions to Kampung Chetti and wanna try my luck there. About the same distance as walking to Kampung Portugis, but different direction.

Walked again and passed by the museum. It’s opened this time. Walked back the route I remembered and tried to get to the same house I’ve been to before. Found it, tried my luck, was asked to look for the father at the museum instead. Followed this boy to museum and became friends after talking bout past experiences haha.

Reached museum, chatted and waited, met Mr. Aru – the father, explained my situation and was allowed to stay at his place. Was brought back to the house and hanged around.

Really nice family. Not doing very well financially, but, still surviving. Learnt a little about Chetti race and some other stuffs. This young boy, the second child in the family, seems to have a real passion for scouting. All in all, really thankful that I met them.

Went out in the evening to look around while searching for a job. Couldn’t find any job as usual because nobody wants to hire temporary worker. Getting more familiar with Melaka town including the ‘modernized’ side of Melaka. Took a walk at Jonkers Street and experienced the ‘pre-busy’ state of the street.

Went back to Chetti home and was treated as part of the family. The usual course of events. A decent family.

Now that I’ve solve some issues in the short run, I need to start focusing on recovering back to my previous state in many ways. I know I’m gonna learn a lot this coming few days.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-65685023301341821402011-10-03T16:35:00.000+08:002011-10-03T16:35:02.841+08:00Day 39Woke up, wash up, and whatever usual routine there is (although it may not be routine for me now). Couldn’t leave early as planned because my clothes just won’t dry.

The family has been really nice. A peaceful family.

Started walking and after walking quite a distance, got a free ride passed Tanjung Agam and Sungai Linggi to Kuala Linggi. Reached Melaka border just like that. Didn’t get to hang around Sungai Linggi as it was beautiful.

Walked and walked again and reached a place where I can catch a bus to Melaka. Waited for awhile and got on a bus to Masjid Tanah passing by many places such as Kuala Sungai Baru. No more walking around really rural areas.

From Masjid Tanah, took a bus straight to Melaka. Really missed a lot of places in between.

Reached Melaka and was confused on how Melaka is developing. It’s turning into a city similar to places like Kangar, Alor Star, Pulau Pinang, Ipoh, etc. Was finding my way to the ‘old’ side of Melaka as I’m more familiar with that area. Found Melaka river and walked along side it in the end to the clock tower. Melaka town is still nice whether it’s last time or now.

Went to tourism centre and managed to find directions to Portugese Settlement. Travelled there and looked for the “Headman”. Many things just didn’t change in Melaka.

Went in circles and finally ended up with a Malay ‘Datuk’. Getting help from him and currently putting up a night at Computer Centre in the village near Portugese Village. Kampung ATap I believe.

My plan in Portugese Village was ‘shattered’. Plus, things are still quite rough on me. Hoping that it will gradually turn better.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2164308157697869273.post-23920676277504444162011-10-03T16:33:00.000+08:002011-10-03T16:33:30.604+08:00Day 38A weird and demotivating day. Although some good things did happen but it’s generally still a very demotivating day for me. Day by day it’s getting tougher. But then again, I’ll press on.

Got out of Seremban and took a bus to Port Dickson. Visited around Port Dickson town and it was beaches all over after that.

First, enjoyed the first beach I met, Port Dickson beach, near the town. It was really tranquil. Many odd things happened afterwards and I proceeded over to Bagan Pinang beach (Batu 4) by bus.

Bagan Pinang beach was nice too. Walked to the other beaches nearby and stopped by Saujana beach. Took quite some time reminiscing what happened not too long ago. Can’t believe I travelled back to the very same place like this.

Walked further and probably passed by Nelayan beach without realizing. The next thing I knew was that I reached “Pantai Cahaya NS”. Walked this long bridge over here (if I did not confuse myself with the beaches).

After that, took a bus to Blue Lagoon. Passed by Teluk Kemang because of that. Reached the place and had to walk about 2 km inside as it’s a “tanjung”. Passed by many places especially hotels. Reached Blue Lagoon beach (Tanjung Biru) and the sea is really blue.

Rested awhile and headed over to Rumah Api Tanjung Tuan a.k.a. Cape Rachado. In the end, found out that it’s located further in the forest reserve recreational park and didn’t feel like going in this time. Next time, seriously.

Headed over to Pantai Cermin nearby and enjoyed myself for a moment there. Walked out and took a bus to Pasir Panjang.

Pasir Panjang is a really small kampung. Can’t say no crime here at all, but, people here are nice enough.

In the end, after going through a monk and temple, found a place to rest at someone’s house. Really troubled them a lot.
P.S. I will go on no matter what.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
